Whakapapa Reflection

Last week our homework was to interview one of our parents and one of our grandparents and ask them what it was like when they were at school & what it was like in those days.

What was it like at school for you?	We sat at our desks all the time. In intermediate we started off writing with pencils and weren't aloud to use fountain pens. Until we could write neatly. We had to write lines when we were naughty.	It was harder than now! And the teachers were really strict, if you were naughty you would get the strap or the cane. There were no computers. Also the teachers wrote on the black boards, a students job was to clean the dusters by banging them outside.
Did you have uniforms?	Not in primary but in secondary school.	Only for intermediate and high school but not for primary.
Did you have cars or seat belts?	Not everybody had a car but there were no seat belts.	Yes we had one car for the family. But my dad took the car to work so we, had to catch  the bus or walk to do anything. We had seat belts in the front but none in the back, and you didn't have to wear them.
Did you have to write on paper or books?	We had exercise books to write in.	We had books but very similar to what we have now.
What was your TV like when you were young?	We only had one channel, no remotes and we had to turn it on and off with a knob. It was also black and white. Programmes started in the afternoon and finished at ten at night.	The screen was black and white and there were only two channels. And no remotes and you had to change the channel with the dial on the TV. And TV didn’t start until 10:00 in the morning until 12:00 at night.

The TV’s only had one or two channels and both were black and white. They also didn’t have remotes like we do now.

Not everybody had cars, and if they did it was usually only one. The cars didn’t have seatbelts, but later they used them in the front only.

Schools didn’t use any computers like we do now, and teachers used a blackboard and chalk.

My Show Me

For maths we used a app on the ipad's called Show Me. I was working with Catrin, Kayla and me. Our strategy was rounding and compensating and our tool was a number line.

The H.N.I Athletics Sounds

On the 13th of March  Room 12B played capture the flag. I was in the blue bands team, but sadly we lost capture the flag.
